DESCRIPTION

Improv College is delighted to welcome Katy Schutte, visiting from the UK, to teach in-person workshops here in Montreal.

When I was a kid, my Mum told me not to read Stephen King, so - of course - I read loads. If you haven't read his work, you probably know Carrie, Misery and IT. Did you know that Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and Stand by Me are all based on his stories too? His style is rich, characterful, scary, and exciting.

Terrifying and ridiculous baddies meet coming-of-age stories and slow-burn character scenes. Come play small town cops, frustrated writers, clowns, vampires and er... killer trucks in this super fun, low-pressure class. You don't need to know the genre to come and play.

TEACHER BIO

Katy Schutte is an award-winning writer, improviser and teaching artist with an MA in Folklore Studies.

Katy has performed and taught improvisation in thirty countries across five continents. She is a Head Teacher, Curriculum Writer and main stage Director for Hoopla, the UK’s biggest improv school. Katy authored The Improviser's Way: A Long Form Workbook, published by Nick Hern Books. She co-created climate hopepunk touring show We Built This City on Rock and Coal and improvises in Brand New Musical, Hell Yeah! and the Pretend Company, among others. She was a longstanding member of The Maydays (2004-2022) and co-founded The Improv Place / International Improv Station (2019-2021).
