DESCRIPTION

Be A Good Partner is an improv class with the express aim of helping you support each other on stage. The goal is to give you the tools to make your scene partners feel heard and empowered, while learning to take up your own space and use your own voice. (If you've never taken an improv class before, we strongly suggest starting with our Intro to Improv class.)

This class looks at collaboration through the lens of supporting your partners' choices while also building on them. We dig into imposter syndrome, self-criticism, and self-erasure to bring out the best and boldest improviser already in you.

We will tackle:

  • Active listening
  • Making offers
  • Being decisive
  • Saying "yes" and "no"
  • Collaborating and heightening
  • Consent and sensitive topics

TEACHER: VINNY FRANCOIS

Vinny Francois has nearly 25 years of experience as a professional improviser in both English and French and is an award-winning instructor, specializing in unscripted narratives. He is the director of Improv College and Camp Zipzap, a weekend improv camp for adults. He has been published in McSweeney’s Internet Tendency and is currently a writer at The Beaverton, a Canadian satire site. He lives in Tio'tia:ke / Montreal.

"Working with Vinny was an absolute delight! He challenged me to play in ways that truly leveled up my improv performance and changed my approach to the craft. Also: he knows where to find the best ice cream and donuts."
