Sketch Team - Starts Oct 1
NOTE: This Sketch Team consists of 12 weeks of 2 hour classes, there will be 3 monthly payments due Oct 1, Nov 1 and Dec 1. Your registration here counts as your first monthly payment.
Improv College is assembling a Sketch Team of people to write, edit and rehearse comedy sketches weekly and perform shows with coach Alessandra Vite (Second City, CBC Radio). There are monthly coaching fees involved (see below).
Our Sketch Team program runs 12 weeks on a four-week cycle of writing, editing and performing online. Sketch teams will meet for two hours each week, building up to an online performance every fourth week, streamed live online. Over the 12 weeks, the team will produce 3 shows which you may use for clips that can be part of your portfolio, and concluding with our end of year Winter Ball Festival.
Teams will meet Saturdays from 3-5pm (Eastern). Starting Oct 1 and ending Dec 17.
You will be required to perform in sketches for this team as needed. We do not have a writing-only option.
Registration closes Sunday Sep 29 at midnight (Eastern). There are no auditions, any previous sketch writing experience is recommended but not required.
WHO IS COACHING THE SKETCH TEAM?
The teams will be coached by writer and performer, Alessandra Vite.
Alessandra Vite is a comedic writer based in Toronto. She began her career improvising with The Second City and was a member of their National Touring Company. She went on to write for the popular CBC Radio show “Because News”, and wrote for the 27th season of “This Hour Has 22 Minutes”.
Alessandra is a seasoned sketch writer and performer, being the head writer and performer of the Canadian Comedy Award-winning sketch troupe “The Sketchersons”. She has also performed at JFL42 with her award-winning sketch troupe “The Flirty Boys”. She was also featured in the Montreal Just For Laughs festival with her Sonar Network-produced podcast, “Shh… I’m Watching A Movie”. You can also catch her selling butt eggs to vampires on FX’s “What We Do In The Shadows”.
WHAT IF I HAVE ZERO EXPERIENCE WITH SKETCH WRITING/PERFORMING?
Super! Jump on in!
WHAT ARE THE TECH REQUIREMENTS?
You will need a stable internet connection, a video camera and a microphone. We strongly recommend using headphones to avoid causing feedback. You will not need to use a green screen/virtual background (though it can be fun!)
WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF ME IF I'M SELECTED?
The Sketch Team is a 12-week program running from the first week of October to the middle of December. Time devoted to writing outside of weekly meetings will be expected of all Sketch Team players.
For 12 weeks of 2 hour classes, there will be 2 further monthly payments due Nov 1 and Dec 1. Payments are 120$, with several financial assistance spots available (first-come first-served, no application necessary, just use the drop-down menu!).
