DESCRIPTION

In improv, we often hear: "Get into trouble. Fall in love," — Well, you'll definitely be doing a lot of that in this improvised romantic comedy course!

In this 10-week course, you'll apply what you've learned in four online shows (streamed on YouTube) where you will improvise a Romantic Comedy on the spot.

It's important to note that while we will be inspired by classic RomCom tropes, this course encourages us to play with and break outdated stereotypes around gender that may often be portrayed in these materials.

Inspired by classic and modern romcoms, here you'll swoon, sigh, and surprise yourself when you learn how to improvise a hilarious romance story. Learn how to:

• Improvise the Meet Cute
• Play endearingly charming lead characters, campy villains, wise family members, or the sassy sidekick
• Explore and experiment with RomCom tropes
• Create awww-worthy romantic relationships
• Play in the spaces between hilarious and heartfelt

Come join us as we lean into our cheesy side, get a little cheeky, and make up some feel-good stories about how love is all we need. ❤️

TEACHER: AIH MENDOZA

Aih Mendoza is a world-class RomCom dork and longtime improv teacher and performer. This course is two things she loves smashed together and she cannot be more excited about it.

Aih is a faculty member and alumnus of Third World Improv, the Philippines’ first and only school dedicated to improvisational theatre. She is also the producer of the Manila Improv Festival and director of the ImprovisAsian Festival, the world’s first all-Asian improv festival.

She regularly teaches improv workshops and classes around Metro Manila and has taught for theatres in Singapore, Vietnam, Denmark, Vienna, Canada, the UK, and the US. Aih is also a member of SPIT Manila, the Philippines’ premiere improvisational theatre group, and Housekeeping Improv, Third World Improv’s house team. Outside improv, she Aih is a freelance creative, dessert enthusiast, and cat parent.

Two reduced-rate equity spots are reserved in each class at Improv College for members of equity-seeking communities on a first-come, first-served basis. To claim a spot in this class, simply select the Equity option from the Registration drop-down menu. No application required.
