DESCRIPTION

Improv College is delighted to welcome Katy Schutte, visiting from the UK, to teach a pair of in-person workshops in Montreal.

In a supportive and relaxed environment, we will help you create musical theatre inspired by a variety of styles to weave rich tales and scenes through teamwork and group mind.

Learn how to improvise songs in the moment based on your personal truths, opinions and stories. Practice organic ways of rhyming, creating melody and finding the structure of a song as you go along. 

Suitable for intermediate to advanced improvisers with zero to lots of experience in musical improv. Ability to sing is not a pre-requisite.

TEACHER BIO

Katy Schutte is an award-winning writer, improviser and teaching artist with an MA in Folklore Studies.

Katy has performed and taught improvisation in thirty countries across five continents. She is a Head Teacher, Curriculum Writer and main stage Director for Hoopla, the UK’s biggest improv school. Katy authored The Improviser's Way: A Long Form Workbook, published by Nick Hern Books. She co-created climate hopepunk touring show We Built This City on Rock and Coal and improvises in Brand New Musical, Hell Yeah! and the Pretend Company, among others. She was a longstanding member of The Maydays (2004-2022) and co-founded The Improv Place / International Improv Station (2019-2021).
