DESCRIPTION
Improvisers have often been told that 'finding the unusual thing' will elevate their scenes and make them stand out in a long form set. Two common ways of finding that unusual element are either through playing extraordinary characters in ordinary locations or playing in extraordinary locations with ordinary characters. In this class, we will look at different techniques, from roleplaying game mechanics and story prompts to help improvisers unlock different ways of developing memorable characters and striking locations, going beyond the mundane and into the unknown of the imagination.
In this 4 week class, participants will: 1. Develop a unique array of different characters to be used in 2 person scenes and group games, prompted through simple story game techniques and challenges 2. Utilise uncommon locations and environments to make scenes immersive, grounded and engaging 3. Build upon and heighten suggestions to create 'never been told' stories through monologues and talking head spotlights.
- Develop unique characters
- Play with unusual locations
- Heighten your scenes with new techniques and tools
Open to any level of improviser.
TEACHER BIO
FIONA K.T. HOWAT

She also co-hosts 'The DM’s Book Club', a weekly podcast about reading about some Dungeons and Dragons and discussing how it might be included in RPG campaigns! and is currently working on ‘Last Line.
